Helping the homeless

Hairless for the Homeless

‘No pain no gain’ was the cry from Robert Lear of Oakwood homes while enduring his charity chest wax off in aid of Porchlight, the charity for the homeless. Filmed and broadcast live on social media Robert bared all to raise money and promote the work of this worthy charity.

Speaking after his 20 minute ‘ordeal’ Robert said ‘To be honest, I really didn’t expect the pain to be as bad as it was, how other people have this done by choice is beyond me!  Joking apart I really wanted to do something that would raise both awareness and of course the well needed money for this worthy cause.  At this time of year the need is more than ever to help the homeless and Porchlight work hard across Kent and the south east, to help vulnerable and isolated people get support with their mental health, housing, education and employment.’

Robert is Branch Manager for the new Ramsgate office of Oakwood homes which is opening soon - and the chest waxing took place at their headquarters in Cecil Square in Margate. Managing Director Andrew Dickinson commented ‘Well done to Robert, it looked extremely painful and of course we didn’t cheer and clap every time a strip was torn!’ Andrew broadcast the event on Facebook live and even took more pledges for donations whilst filming, resulting in the total reaching £700.  Andrew continued to say ‘When Robert suggested that he would be raising money for Porchlight I was more than happy to make the main office available for the event. It is important for us as a company to support local charities and give something back to the community. We were also very appreciative of the time that Debbie from Hazy Dayz Therapies gave free of charge to perform the treatment on Robert’.
