Our beautiful new ‘SOLD’ boards and van art, not only displays the beauty of where we live and encapsulates the local community feeling we’re aiming for, but the fact the image was taken by the late Nik Jordan will leave a legacy of his life throughout the local area…
The story behind our new boards and van art is a meaningful one. There are 3 reasons we’ve chosen the design we have, and each reason is close to all our hearts at Oakwood Homes…
1. The legacy of Nik Jordan
The photo we’ve used on our boards was a photograph taken by the incredibly talented, wonderful, caring, and local loving Nik Jordan, who was a fantastic Head of Design & Marketing at Oakwood Homes. He had a passion for all things creative, which thrived in all that stunning Thanet has to offer and spent a lot of time exploring locally with his dog by his side. Last year, Nik passed away from Cancer. He touched the hearts of everyone around him, including every colleague he worked with at Oakwood Homes, and so we’ve spent our time since remembering him, and building a legacy of his life. This picture will be seen all over our local areas, as well as travelling around on the side of our van, so Nik’s legacy will live on to be seen and remembered by our whole community.
2. The Beaches & The Sunsets
Most people who live in and around Thanet live here for one reason; the beach! Having such a stunning expanse at our fingertips, with sand and sea air in proximity is what makes our local area so great. Our kids play here, we walk our dogs here, many play water sports, have picnics, and enjoy the life changing sunsets which take over the sky every night in the summer.
JMW Turner, one of the greatest British artists, found the ‘loveliest skies in all Europe in Margate’. He chose Thanet to capture some of the most glorious and beautiful sun-scapes, producing his unique personal style, which often used oil paint in a broad and translucent manner to create scenes of vast light and colour. Given Thanet’s historic ties to beautiful sunset pictures, it was only right to use one of our own to show our love for the area.
3. #WeLiveWhereYouLive
We’re all about community this year, and all of our staff live in the local area. The pandemic has made so many people rethink their priorities, and many have landed on this:
neighbours, family, relationships, community. We wrote
THIS BLOG earlier this year to show our new way of thinking – and why we’re now using the phrase We Live Where You Live in our blogs, home marketing, and local guides. So, of course we had to choose a LOCAL image taken by a local when picking our new boards. Be prepared for more community and local related content, including competitions, business partnerships, and tips!
We hope you love our new boards and van art as much as we do. Every time we put one up, we’ll be thinking of the beauty of our local area, our local community, and of course, Nik. We hope you do the same when you see them around.
(Seen a board or a van around town? Snap a picture and send it in to us! We LOVE knowing you’ve seen and loved them too!)
