Our Macmillan Coffee Morning

Our Macmillan Coffee Morning

Our cake give-away, helped us collect donations from the public, team members, friends and family!

Oakwood homes decided to take our Macmillan ‘coffee’ morning out to the public this year; in previous years we have just kept this in house and taken staff donations, but we felt it time to take it to the public.

Whilst we couldn’t offer coffee, due to lack of facilities, we were able to provide cakes which were homemade, and shop bought. In just two hours, we received a total of £333.42 in donations from staff and public; it was a fantastic result, but the most rewarding part of the experience was hearing the humbling stories from many that donated and whose lives had been touched by cancer.

About 80% of the people that stopped to talk and donate had a story to tell and many of them with sad endings but there were also many positive stories, two different ladies that had undergone treatment for breast cancer in the last year that were now in remission and the best story of the day went to ‘Danny’ who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 6 years ago and given one to two years to live, he is still here and got married two weeks ago! He told us about the amazing care he had from the NHS and Macmillan, without both he doubts he would still be here.

Everyone said I had the short straw having to stand outside for 2 hours on a fresh morning at the end of September, I personally think I won the lottery of the day being able to talk to so many inspiring people.

If you missed the chance to donate ... it's not too late ... you can still use our JustGiving link below.

Thank you all for your donations and see you again next year!
