The stories behind moving home in lockdown… can you relate?

Living through these strange times, day to day life can feel unsettled. We know moving home may not be a priority for everyone right now, but for some, it’s the perfect time. Lockdown has made many re-consider their priorities and take steps to make changes. Here’s a few of their stories…

“I no longer need to commute”

I made the decision to move home, due to an unexpected change in lifestyle brought on by Covid-19 and the ongoing requirement for me to work from home. My cosy Victorian flat, close to Broadstairs Station was no longer essential for a daily commute to London and all in all, just not big enough to house me, my work paraphernalia, my yoga mat and a new lockdown rescue cat named Thomas, 24-7! Finding a buyer super quickly through Oakwood Homes meant I was able to take advantage of the stamp duty holiday and purchase a new, long term home with a little more space to accommodate my needs. I am just delighted.

“I wanted to be closer to family”

Living away from family has always been a bit painful, but this was heightened during Covid. I love to see my baby nieces and nephews grow, and once lockdown began, suddenly it felt like family was the most important thing in my life. I knew I needed to make a change! Covid really gave me the push to sell my home and move back up north to spend more time with those who really matter most to me. I couldn’t wait until the pandemic ended, and I’m so glad I didn’t as spending ‘Lockdown 3’ near family, with daily walks and conversations, has been so wonderful!

“I wanted a garden”

My London flat never felt restrictive until the pandemic hit. I spent a lot of time working late at work and then heading to the bars with colleagues, so the small, pokey apartment seemed fine. Once working from home became the norm though, I knew I needed to invest in somewhere with outside space. Moving out of London into Kent has meant more space, and more importantly, more outside space! Now I can get the puppy I’ve always wanted, and a nightly glass of wine on my patio has done wonders for my mental health. I could never have gone back to a normal life – this one suits me too much! So glad I took the decision to move when I did!

“We needed more space!”

Our family loved our home, but we had simply outgrown it. It’s tough to notice this when most of you are out and about every day, but lockdown really made this issue clear! For a family of four, space to work, play and grow was important. We took the plunge quickly and found the perfect home, plus a buyer for ours! Now I have my own home office, and the kids can home school in their playroom – it’s bliss!

If moving home is starting to feel like the right step, don’t waste time! Although the lockdown is still in effect, the property market is still open for business, and there’s a record number of buyers looking for a home just like yours.
